SCHOOLS AND PARENTS
The Schools and Parents curriculum area is one that is developing all the time across the region. The courses we offer divide into 4 groups:
- Family Roles and relationships, for example Women and the Family, Living with the Under 8s, Healthy Families, Living with Teenagers, Kidz - who said they were easy?
- Supporting children's learning, for example Practical Helpers in Schools, Helping in Schools, Help your Child with Maths, Children Playing and Learning
- Personal and skills development for parents/child carers, for example Confidence and Assertiveness, Women and Health, Keep your Cool, Everyday Maths, Improve your Writing Skills, Basic Counselling Skills, Using the Digital Camera
- Parents/carers and children learning together: Babies into Books, Story Sacks, Storytelling
We want to work with a wide range of parents and carers, but especially with those that are affected by economic, educational or social disadvantage and we are always looking for ways to reach this group of learners. One successful way has been to work in partnership with schools, parent partnerships, neighbourhood centres, SureStart, local authorities, charities and many other community-based organisations who are in touch with family networks.
If you know or are involved with a group of parents/carers who are interested in starting a course, please contact us to explore how we can work together. All of our courses are organised in community venues such as community centres or primary schools, so we are happy and able to come out to you to work in your locality. Please click on the Parents & Schools illustration at the bottom of this page to download our leaflet.
If you are a parent or child carer and you would like to find out more about what is on offer in your area, please feel free to give us a ring and see what is available near your home. Many of our courses are free, but, if not, we have generous fee reductions for people in receipt of means-tested benefits.
The parents who have already done a course with us have given us very positive feedback and found the tutors friendly, patient and able to help them achieve something new. Some of their comments included:
"I now have greater confidence in knowing who I am", "It has helped me how I deal with my children",
"The people on it were very nice and friendly",
"Other members of the group and tutor made it brilliant - I looked forward to a Tuesday!".
We are always looking for new tutors in this curriculum area. If you have a teaching qualification and relevant experience in working with children we would love to hear from you. Please download a sessional tutor application form from the tutor page.
