Partners

When we work with partners, we benefit from their knowledge of their clients or members, as well as their facilities (e.g. accommodation). Partners benefit from our educational expertise and experience and access to a large tutor pool. As partners, we can often make more successful applications for funding.

Examples of current partners include Social Services Departments, community centres, libraries, women's projects, trade unions and charities, like Mind and Age Concern.

If your organisation is interested in developing programmes with the WEA, please contact the Programme Area Manager in your geographical area. Click here to access the 'In your Area' page.

Funders

Government priorities for adult education affect how much money we have available to offer the kind of programmes in the community that make the WEA unique.

Currently, full funding is available for certain basic skills programmes below level 2 and we are able to offer these free of charge. However, other programmes, such as community learning and liberal studies, do not attract the financial support necessary for us to offer them economically or even free of charge to groups of adults who need them the most. As we do not want to unnecessarily charge or increase charges to our learners (many of whom would not able to afford their 'second chance' education), we depend on alternative sources of funding.

Our current funders usually provide funding for specific projects that run in targetted geographical areas. By funding the WEA to develop an educational programme, they often buy in the expertise to help them meet their own targets.

Below are organisations that have previously or are currently supporting parts of our course programme.

Developing Visual Performing Arts and Media curriculum leadership in the region through support from the Practitioner Research Scheme 2007-08.
Supporting development education in Trade Union Studies programmes via the Development Awareness Fund.
